Wild Witham Play Area - Improving our environment
South Witham Parish Council and South Kesteven District Council, came together, in a joint venture to start improving the South Witham, Wild Witham Play Area. The play area is between Great Close and Moor Lane and dates back to when the MOD owned the area to provide housing for personnel based at RAF North Luffenham.
Planting trees and shrubs is the first initiative, of what is hoped to be many over the coming years and is designed to improve drainage at the site. Members of South Witham Parish Council, the local community and District Councillor Ben Green attended and planted some 135 native saplings. These little trees are grown locally or in Ireland.
The site has been neglected over several years with equipment being removed as it reached its end of useful life but not replaced. The site needs resurfacing to meet current ROSPA safety requirements along with being maintained as an area for the community to gather.
Councillor Ben Green( SKDC, Con.), confirmed there is an ongoing review within SKDC to see what further support may be available.
